Existing Home Sales in Florida

Recently released statistics show that existing home sales went up in Florida about 34% in the month of September, bringing the grand total of homes sold to 14,419. That's over 3,500 existing homes sold than September 2008!  Existing condominium sales statewide also shot up 77%, for a total of 5,088 units sold.

Additionally, Florida's metropolitan statistical areas (or MSA's) have indicated an increase across the board in existing home and condo sales. Some areas have even maintained this increase for a consecutive 15-month run.

While sales may be up, sinking prices have been inching downward - to the effect of about 19% for the median household sales price in Florida. Areas including Naples, Bonita Springs, Fort Myers, and Cape Coral are just such places that have experienced a noticeable drop. As of September 2009, Florida's median home price for existing homes fell to approximately $142,000, over $30,000 less than September of last year. Nationally, median home prices have also dropped, but only at a rate of about 12%.
