Florida Senators Ask FEMA for Help
Chinese drywall has been a hot topic in the real estate industry for over a year. With frustrated homeowners, contractors, and developers looking for assistance and solutions, Florida senators are now asking FEMA to ascertain whether the agency has the power to step in and offer help to those in need.
In a recent article released by The Palm Beach Post and Florida Realtors.org, four Senators have come together and written a letter in an effort to see if FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) can assist displaced homeowners. Among the letter's contents was a request that FEMA respond by November 7, 2009.
This letter mimics efforts by a U.S. Representative who also sent a letter back in April of this year to Gov. Charlie Crist. U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler, D-Boca Raton, asked the governor to "declare a state of emergency to make Florida citizens whose homes are affected by Chinese drywall eligible for immediate relief through the Federal Emergency Management Agency".
Whatever the turnout of these letters, Chinese drywall has affected countless homeowners, and needs to be resolved sooner than later. If FEMA is able to lend a helping hand, it will make a large dent in the devastation that the faulty material has caused.
